Woes of Megacity Driving Signal Dawn of ‘Peak Car’ Era - Bloomberg
A recent article by Bloomberg news highlighted the increasing urbanisation of the world’s population and concluded that in the world’s growing megacities, pollution and congestion are leading more and more people to adopt sustainable mobility habits as the private car is no longer seen by many to be ‘the most convenient conveyance’.
In the USA for example, the percentage of 19 year-olds holding a driving licence has fallen from 87.3% in 1983 to 69.5% in 2010, whilst more than 50% of households in New York are now carless. It is a trend not limited to the USA; according to the World Bank, car ownership is declining or stagnating in several industrialised economies such as Japan, UK and Finland.(...)
