The EU’s Emission Trading System (ETS) is a cornerstone of EU climate policy, working to cut greenhouse gas emissions by making the biggest polluters pay. While the recent revision of the ETS directive tries to make the tool more effective, progress risks being watered down for cement – one of the world’s most carbon-intensive industries – by the proposed Free Allocation Regulation (FAR). The Alliance for Low-Carbon Cement & Concrete calls on legislators to level the playing field for low-carbon cement and concrete solutions to flourish.
